The Tale of the Two Rival Sages — from the royal Khamsa of Nizami made for Shah Tahmasp I, Tabriz, 1539–1543.

This painting belongs to the sumptuous copy of the Khamsa (Quintet) of the poet Nizami produced for Shah Tahmasp I between 1539 and 1543. Made at the height of the Tabriz court style, its illustrations are counted among the supreme achievements of Persian painting.
