A folio from a seventeenth-century Mughal album of the Shah Jahan period (c. 1628–58), devoted to the imperial lineage and interleaved with calligraphy by the master Mir ‘Ali. Two haloed figures are seated upon clouds within a radiant aureole as winged cherubs bear a jewelled crown above — European angelic motifs absorbed into Mughal painting, joined to the nimbus of divine light that marked sacred authority.
