Bring a page of the Mughal court to your desk. This anti-slip desk mat carries A Blindfolded Suitor Brought Before a Princess — a jewel-toned scene set on a carpeted terrace in the women's palace quarters, where an older woman of the harem leads a blindfolded young prince before a princess holding a document, choosing her suitor as the river glows at dusk behind them.

Painted in Lucknow in 1755 and attributed to the master Fayzullah, the original was worked in gum tempera and gold on paper. It is a quietly political picture: signed and dated at a moment when powerful women held sway over the Mughal throne — barely a year after the emperor Ahmad Shah Bahadur had himself been blinded and deposed.

Faithfully restored from museum archives and printed edge to edge, it turns an ordinary work surface into something worth lingering over.
