Mukhtar throws his wife Maimuna into the pit, but she saves herself, c. 1560 — an illustrated folio from the Tuti-nama, produced at the court of Akbar (r. 1556–1605). Maimuna clings to a branch in a dark pit while her villainous husband watches from above. He threw her into the pit in an attempt to steal her possessions. Faithfully restored from museum archives and printed archivally on museum-grade stock — ready to frame.
