Rustam and Isfandiyar Test Each Other’s Grip — from the Shahnama made for Prince Baysunghur at Herat, completed in 1430.

Rustam is the greatest hero of the Shahnama, the Persian Book of Kings — famed for his strength, his horse Rakhsh, and his seven trials.

This painting belongs to the Shahnama produced for the Timurid prince Baysunghur Mirza at Herat, completed in 1430 — a landmark of the classical Timurid style, celebrated for its perfect draughtsmanship and courtly refinement.
