Inside the Lahore Fort, Shah Jahan built the Sheesh Mahal (1631–32), a hall whose walls and ceiling are set with thousands of tiny convex mirrors. Legend says it was made for Mumtaz Mahal, who dreamed she could touch the stars. By candlelight the room glitters like a night sky, the sky on this dial, ringed in mirror mosaic.

The Emperor Collection: five Mughal emperors, five dials, each drawn from a place or a story of his reign.
