The destitute Mukhtar meets his wife Maimuna at a holy shrine, c. 1560 — an illustrated folio from the Tuti-nama, produced at the court of Akbar (r. 1556–1605). In the center of the image, a surprised Mukhtar, dressed in rags, confronts his wife. A few days prior, he had attempted to kill her in order to steal all of her possessions. Faithfully restored from museum archives and printed archivally on museum-grade stock — ready to frame.
