About the piece Scroll ↓

A tale from the Tutinama (Tales of a Parrot), told on the fifth night: a monkey who could play chess was a prince’s favourite chessmate — until, slapped for a joke gone wrong at a banquet, he bit the prince’s hand before the assembled guests. Food is carried in at the left as the court looks on in astonishment beneath the garden pavilion. Painted about 1560 for the young emperor Akbar, the page bears an inscription naming Dasavanta, who rose to become one of the most celebrated masters of the imperial atelier. Seven lines of Persian calligraphy crown the scene.

Each painting in our restored collection is digitally restored from the museum archives by Aurah Living — color-corrected, cleaned of scan artifacts, and prepared at archival print quality. The folio's painted inset, decorative hashiya, and original cream paper margins are all preserved in the print.

Premium matte paper print, framed in solid wood with a beveled cream mat. Three frame finishes: Black, Red Oak, White. Free U.S. shipping in the continental United States.
