About the piece Scroll ↓

A single rosette, set in a sea of lapis. Quiet, ornate, deeply Mughal.

The Naulakha Medallion borrows its language from the inlaid pavilion that gives it its name — built within the walls of the Lahore Fort and named for its cost (nine lakhs, an emperor's ransom in 1631). What was once carved in marble and pietra dura has been reimagined here in pigment and thread: an eight-petaled lotus rosette curled in arabesque vines, bordered by paisley buds, mirrored at every corner.

The motif is rendered in saffron gold and antique brass — the kind that catches lamplight after dusk. The ground is a deep, glazed lapis-teal: the color you find inside Iznik tile, inside the dome of a small mosque, inside the lining of a Mughal manuscript. Bilaterally symmetrical. Crisp. Quietly maximal.

Place it on a linen sofa and it anchors the room. Set two against a wall of dark-painted shelving and it becomes a gallery. A single piece on a velvet armchair is all the conversation the space needs.
