About the piece Scroll ↓

A young raja (king) rides a brown stallion, larger than the others in the center of the composition. The speed of his gallop is indicated by the flying ends of the Raja’s turban. A group of his horsemen turn their heads around to admire his glory, while another party riding behind him follow their king’s lead in obedience.

Northwestern India, Rajasthan, Rajput Kingdom of Devgarh, 1825. Attributed to Kushala. Original medium: gum tempera, gold and silver on paper.

Worth knowing: The Raja was probably in his early teens when this picture was painted.

Faithfully restored from museum archives and printed on premium canvas-textured fine art paper, framed and ready to hang.
