The Imperial Medallion draws from one of the most commanding forms in Mughal decorative art: the central medallion. Under the patronage of Akbar, Jahangir, and Shah Jahan, master artisans rendered these compositions across manuscripts, textiles, and architectural panels — vast central forms surrounded by intricate fields of arabesque, lotus palmettes, and flowering vines, each detail a small act of devotion. These were not mere ornament. They were expressions of cosmic order, meant to carry the geometry of paradise into the spaces of earthly power.
This design translates that tradition into full-body wearable art. A commanding central medallion in deep charcoal — dense with layered floral arabesques in burnished gold and amber — sits at the heart of a glowing field of burnt amber and warm rust. Scalloped arch spandrels frame the corners with mirrored botanical scrollwork, and bands of deep teal-green edge the composition like the oxidized borders of a centuries-old illumination. The palette is drawn entirely from the materials of Mughal craft: saffron-dyed silk, aged bronze, sun-faded sandstone, and the cool green of Lahori tilework.
Because this is an all-over print, the design does not stop at the edges of a frame. It wraps the entire garment — front, back, sleeves — creating a piece that feels less like clothing and more like being inside the art itself.
